Color field painting
Laureen Warrington
Marcus Centmayer was born in 1961. The trained stonemason studied art and sculpture at the Art Academy in Karlsruhe from 1986 to 1991. As a master student of Prof. Hiromi Akiyama, he subsequently developed his work in color field painting. Centmayer received a lot of attention for his sculptures in public spaces (including the memorial to civilian victims of bombing raids on Worms).
He likes to use corrugated cardboard boxes as a medium. Labyrinths, chaos, order, structure, color and line are the recurring themes and at the same time visual means. The works are based on experimentation and discovery, not on calculation. The intuitively controlled design process of his sculptures can also be found in his paintings.
Some of his works are part of private and public collections. In addition to numerous exhibitions, many works were shown in 2022/23 as part of the Flux4Art art in Rhineland-Palatinate.
