Weighing Den Uyl
Abigail Stern lives and works in New York. She studied both art and art history. Her works have a very graphic effect. She glues paper to paper, paints photos, fabrics, objects and wood. The formal rigor is broken by photos, wood and paint. In doing so, she has further developed the Sumi-e art.
In the Far Eastern countries of Asia, the traditional art of Sumi-e has a long and rich history, dating back to the ancient Zen masters. This art form, also known as "ink painting", is characterized by its simplicity, elegance and deep connection with nature.
Wiegen den Uyl builds his paintings in layers and reacts to the supporting material when necessary or possible. His works on paper are more direct and less layered. In other words: painting from a different perspective, namely where chance and law come together. Or: grasping the elusive.
Over the years there have been more than 70 exhibitions at home and abroad, including in Berlin, Dresden, Cologne, New York, Venice, Paris, Brussels, Dubai, Tallinn, Leiden and The Hague.
